Governor Bruce Rauner is signing a new law making it easier for Veterans to get support from service dogs. Under the law, Veterans suffering from PTSD and depression would be eligible for a service dog trained thru the Illinois Department of Correction’s Helping Paws Program. Governor Rauner says the initiative already provides dogs to help people with disabilities.
The Helping Paws Program has been around for 17 years and is run out of the Logan Correctional Center for women. Offenders must get their GED and go thru training prior to participating.
