A California man was arrested in Fayette County on Thursday by the Illinois State Police, allegedly in possession of 4 pounds of heroin. In a release from the Illinois State Police, it states that a District 12 trooper patrolling Interstate 70 east of Vandalia on Thursday discovered 4 pounds of heroin during a traffic stop. And, the State Police says the street value of the seized heroin was approximately $648,000.
In the information on the arrest, it states than an ISP trooper initiated a traffic stop on a silver Dodge Durango for improper lane usage. During a search of the vehicle, the State Police says that approximately 4 pounds of heroin was discovered.
The driver, 54 year old Rosario Gonzalez of San Diego, California has been charged in Fayette County Court with Controlled Substance Trafficking–a Class X Felony, and Possession of better than 900 grams of Heroin, which is a Class 1 Felony. During a court appearance today an interpreter helped to make Gonzalez aware of his rights. Gonzalez currently is being held in lieu of $750,000 bond and is set for a preliminary hearing on September 15th at 11 am.
