One person was injured in an accident on Interstate 70 this afternoon, that occurred between the 2 Vandalia exits. The accident occurred this afternoon at 2:48 pm at mile marker 62, which is right between Vandalia’s two exits. Illinois State Police reports say that two vehicles—one driven by 65 year old Charles Moritz of Neoga and the other by 30 year old Caleb Price of Pana–were east bound on I-70. State Police say that the Price vehicle was in the left lane passing the Moritz vehicle. Reports say that Moritz’s vehicle came over the center line and struck Price’s vehicle. Both united traveled into the median and the Moritz vehicle then veered back across the roadway on I-70 eastbound where it struck a guardrail and then was high centered on a bridge wall. State Police say that 65 year old Charles Moritz was transported to Fayette County Hospital for treatment of injuries. The accident led to traffic being diverted off of Interstate 70 at the 61 mile marker, running onto Veteran’s Avenue in Vandalia, and then back on the east bound I-70 at the 63 ramp.
