Although they disagree quite a bit on the current School funding reform bill, both State Senators Kyle McCarter and Andy Manar agree the General Assembly can come to an agreement very soon education funding. Senate Bill One, the education funding reform bill, remains in limbo at this time after Governor Bruce Rauner issued his amendatory veto, stripping out some big parts of the plan. There is the possibility both the Senate and House could override the veto. But, there’s also a strong sense that lawmakers can work out a new plan. State Senator Kyle McCarter says he believes that will happen soon.
And, although he would like to see Senate Bill One be the new funding mechanism for schools, Senate Manar agrees they will get something worked out.
Both the Senate and House would have to override the Governor’s veto to save Senate Bill One. And, it seems unlikely at this time the House would be able to do that.
