(Cincinnati, OH) — Two runs in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Reds nipped the Cardinals, 3-2, in Cincinnati. Billy Hamilton and Joey Votto singled in runs for Cincy in the fifth. Votto added an RBI-double in the first. Asher Wojciechowski tossed five frames of one-run ball to pick up the win. Mike Leake tossed six frames of three-run ball against his former team to take the loss for St. Louis. He singled in a run to help his own cause. The Cards have dropped three-of-four.
(Chicago, IL) — Daniel Murphy homered twice to power the Nationals to a 4-2 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. He hit a two-run blast in the first and added a solo shot in the sixth to stake Washington to a 3-0 lead. Javier Baez clubbed a two-run homer in the seventh to get Chicago close. Anthony Rendon provided the Nats with insurance with a sac-fly in the eighth. Tanner Roark pitched six-and-a-third innings of two-run ball for his ninth win. Sean Doolittle recorded his fifth save. Kyle Hendricks fell to 4-and-4 with the loss. Chicago has dropped three in-a-row.
