Lawmakers are sending an education funding reform bill to the Governor that he plans to amend to remove extra money for Chicago Schools. If Governor Bruce Rauner moves ahead with the amendatory veto as expected, the legislature can either accept his changes or try and override the veto. In the meantime, State Senator Andy Manar says they’ve been meeting with Republicans to try and negotiate a deal.
Lawmakers spent most of the day yesterday negotiating a new plan to pay for Illinois Schools, but those talks broke down late in the day and Democrats agrily sent Governor Rauner their original proposal and all but dared him to change it. Republican lawmakers says the Democrats haven’t been dealing in good faith. A new school funding formula is needed so schools can receive money from the state.
