(St. Louis, MO) — The Diamondbacks blanked the Cardinals, 4-0, in the opener of a four-game series in St. Louis. J.D. Martinez drilled a grand slam in the fourth for Arizona. Luke Weaver allowed the blast during his five-inning start to fall to 0-and-1.

Michael Wacha will pitch for St. Louis, while Arizona sends Robbie Ray to the bump. The Cardinals are third in the NL Central at 50-and-52, four-and-a-half games behind the first-place Cubs.

(Chicago, IL) — Kyle Schwarber homered twice and plated four runs to power the Cubs to a 6-3 win over the White Sox. Anthony Rizzo also went deep for the Cubs, who are 11-and-2 since the All-Star break. Cubs Manager Joe Maddon says Schwarber has been swinging the bat much better lately.
Jon Lester tossed seven innings of two-run ball to improve to 8-and-6. At 54-and-47, Chicago is a game-and-a-half ahead of the Brewers for first place in the NL Central. The Cubs play at Milwaukee tonight.
