(Springfield, IL) — The director of Illinois‘ mental health agency says Senate President John Cullerton needs to watch what he says about people battling mental illness after his comments about the governor’s mental state. Cullerton, who’s sparring with Governor Rauner over school funding, says he hasn’t sent the governor the Democratic school plan because of the governor’s ‘mental state.’ Illinois Division of Mental Health Director Diana Knaebe said Cullerton’s comments reinforce a stigma about mental health issues. Knaebe says it should be beneath Cullerton to try and score political points by accusing someone of a mental illness.
