(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner is defending the housecleaning he’s done in ranks of his top staff members. Since the overrides of Governor Rauner’s budget vetoes earlier this month, he has replaced about a dozen top staffers, many of them longtime Republican aides from previous administrations or previous GOP officeholders. Their replacements have frequently come from conservative organizations including the Illinois Policy Institute, yet Rauner denies that he’s making a turn to the right. He said sometimes he needs fresh troops, and it doesn’t signal a shift in his views. The changes come as Rauner gears up for his reelection fight.
