We hear again today from Kendra Craig and Kelly Curll at the Fayette County Health Department on the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program—a program that has been going on for 12 years in Fayette County, but is in danger of ending due to a loss of funding. The program is a multi-step program, with them beginning by meeting with Fayette County students in the 5th grade. And, Craig says that gives them a better rapport with the students.
And, Craig says the numbers for teen pregnancy and STD’s have gone down steadily over the years of the program.
But, the better numbers that would certainly show the program is working took away the “at risk” need for the funding, according to those funding the program. So, they are now looking to raise the money locally. If you would like to donate money to the program you can contact Kendra Craig, Kelly Curll, or Administrator Rhonda Andrews at the Fayette County Health Department. We’ll hear more on the program coming up tomorrow during NewsCenter.
