A program that has been successful in educating Fayette County Students about teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases is in danger of ending due to a loss of funding. The program is the called the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program and has been administered by the Fayette County Health Department for the past 12 years. Kendra Craig with the Fayette County Health Department says they go into the classrooms and meet with the students and address several different issues.
And, Kelly Curll says they are able to reach the students very well with the information.
Over the years of the program, there has been a major decrease in teen pregnancy rates and the number of adolescents diagnosed with an STD in Fayette County over the past several years. But, the funding for the program is going away and they are looking to raise the funds locally. We’ll hear much more on the program coming up tomorrow during NewsCenter.
