A Dixon, Illinois man was killed in a two vehicle accident on U. S. Route 51 in Fayette County, south of Vandalia. The accident occurred at 4:21 pm on Friday afternoon on U.S. Route 51 at County Road 1075 North, which is about one mile north of Shobonier. Illinois State Police reports indicate that a motor home which was pulling a Fiat passenger car was being driven by 78 year old James Allen Brown of Dixon, Illinois was southbound on Route 51, when the reports say the vehicle crossed the center line, over across the northbound lane and sideswiped a vehicle being driving by 72 year old Lewis Nelson of Mulberry Grove—Nelson’s vehicle was a pickup truck that was towing an enclosed trailer. State Police says the sideswipe impact was on the grassy east, northbound shoulder. The Brown vehicle rolled over coming to rest in the east ditch on its top. The Nelson vehicle came to rest in the east ditch. Reports say that James Allen Brown was extricated from the vehicle and then transported by ambulance to Fayette County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Lewis Nelson, 69 year old Una Nelson of Mulberry Grove (a passenger in the Nelson vehicle), and 67 year old Carol A. Brown of Dixon, Illinois (a passenger in the Brown vehicle) were all transported to Fayette County Hospital for treatment of injuries.
