A 37 year old Florida man was apprehended by police after allegedly running on foot following a traffic stop on Interstate 57 near Farina in Fayette County on Saturday evening. Information from the Illinois State Police reports the ISP received a called for assistance from the Farina Police Department just before 8 pm on Saturday night. ISP reports that the Farina Police Department had conducted a traffic stop on I-57 southbound at mile marker 132. Reports say the Farina officer is alleged to have located a gun in the waistband of the driver’s pants and the driver, who is identified as 37 year old Reginald Howard of Florida, is alleged to have fled from the traffic stop on foot into a nearby cornfield. Illinois State Police say they responded and established a perimeter and provided assistance with an airplane for the search. Illinois State Police say later in the incident Howard was found walking on I-57 southbound near mile marker 129 where an ISP unit then placed the subject into custody without incident. The Illinois State Police say that no shots were fired during the incident by any individuals involved. Additional agencies that responded were the Illinois Conservation Police, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Elmo Police Department. As for 37 year old Reginald Howard of Florida, he is being held in the Fayette County Jail on pending charges of Fleeing or Eluding Police, Driving While License Suspended, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Resisting a Peace Officer. Howard will most likely make an appearance in Fayette County Court today.
