If you thought you felt an earthquake this afternoon in the Vandalia area, you weren’t imagining it. The U.S. Geological Survey reports on their website there was an earthquake this afternoon about 10 miles southwest of Vandalia. The earthquake was not a big one, just a 3.1 magnitude, but individuals in Vandalia, at Vandalia Lake and even some in the Ramsey area reported feeling, or hearing, something around the time of the earthquake—which was reported to be at 1:07 pm this afternoon. According to a scale, an earthquake of a magnitude of 3.1 is considered minor and there are about 30,000 of this level each year. The information also says that earthquakes of this magnitude are often felt but only cause minor damage. As of this time, there have been no damage reports. According to the U.S. Geological Survey website this earthquake is being reviewed at this time.
