(Chicago, IL) — Illinois lawmakers have until midnight tonight to reach a budget deal or risk junk bond status for the state and the loss of access to federal highway funds. The key to a deal is the non-budgetary reforms Governor Rauner demands. Senate Republican leader Christine Radogno says she’s stepping down as of Saturday. And she says compromise is way to bring about the needed reforms Rauner wants. House Speaker Michael Madigan says the Democrat versions of those reforms represent a compromise by him. Rauner has vowed to keep the special session going if the deadline isn’t met.
