Storms rolled thru the area at 2 am and left a path of damage and power outages behind. As of this morning, there are still better than 3700 power outages throughout Fayette County. Ameren lists a very large amount of outages still in Vandalia and also around Fayette County. And, Southwestern Electric also lists a large amount of outages. Strong winds, believed to be better than 50 miles per hour, uprooted trees and tore down power lines and left roadways blocked either with downed trees or power lines. The storm also included very heavy rains and cloud to ground lightning, lighting up the early morning sky.
