(Alexandria, VA) — The gunman in today’s shooting on Republican members of Congress in Alexandria, Virginia, had 30 criminal cases filed against him. Circuit court records in St. Clair County, Illinois, show 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Belleville had four misdemeanors filed against him. According to online police records, Hodgkinson was charged in 2006 with battery and aiding damage to a motor vehicle. Those charges were dismissed. Court records reviewed and obtained by NBC News show that Hodgkinson was charged in 2006 with assaulting his girlfriend. At the time, police recovered a pocket knife, a 12-gauge shotgun, and hair which they say was pulled out of his girlfriend’s head. Hodgkinson died today after police shot him.
