A 33-year old Nokomis man was sentenced in Fayette County Court on Friday to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Christopher L. Scholes was sentenced to 12 years in the DOC for one count of home invasion and causing injury after he was found guilty in March of entering a residence in Ramsey without authority and causing injury to one of the homeowners after striking him in the face with a closed fist. Scholes was also found guilty of one count of criminal trespass during his March trial. For sentencing purposes, Judge Kevin Parker stated that the criminal trespass offense was a lesser offense that could be included in the larger home invasion count sentence and would therefore not render a sentence on that count. Scholes will have to serve 85% of the 12-year sentence and will be given credit for 390 days served in the Fayette County Jail.
