(St. Louis, MO) — Aledmys Diaz hit the go-ahead homer in the fifth inning ad the Cardinals hung on to top the Phillies, 3-2, in St. Louis. Stephen Piscotty and Jedd Gyorko also drove in a run apiece for the Cards’. Michael Wacha tossed six innings of two-run ball to earn the win with Seung-Hwan Oh notching his 14th save. St. Louis snapped a seven-game slide. Jeremy Hellickson surrendered three runs and 10 hits over six frames to take the loss for the Phillies. Philadelphia has dropped three-straight.
(Chicago, IL) — Charlie Blackmon’s two-run homer in the fifth snapped a 2-all tie and the Rockies went on to beat the Cubs 5-3 at Wrigley Field. Ryan Hanigan’s two-run blast in the second tied the game at two for Colorado, which also got an RBI single from Nolan Arenado in the seventh. Chris Rusin got the win in relief and Greg Holland escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to notch his 23rd save. Seth Frankoff took the loss. Jason Heyward drove in two runs for Chicago.
