(Springfield, IL) — Democrats in the Illinois Senate hope the third time is the charm for their grand bargain. Leaders yesterday announced they are abandoning an ‘all or nothing’ approach with the package of tax increases. Republicans refused to support nearly seven-billion dollars more in taxes without spending cuts. Democratic leaders in the Senate say they expect to vote today on pieces of what they hope will become a new state budget.
