(Chicago, IL) — The state’s treasurer is warning Governor Rauner that there could be costly consequences if the state doesn’t have a budget in place by the end of the month. Governor Rauner says he’s keeping track of the Senate budget deliberations, but telling them small spending cuts and a tax hike won’t do it when it comes to balancing the budget long-term. He said the budget would fall out of balance a year later. Treasurer Mike Frerichs says Rauner should get more personally involved in budget talks rather than conducting campaign-like public appearances. He said bond rating housings have warned that Illinois‘ credit will drop to junk status if there’s no budget by the end of the month.
