(Atlanta, GA) — Aledmys Diaz dropped in four hits and drove in three runs as the Cardinals cruised past the Braves, 10-0, in Atlanta. Diaz notched a two-run double in the third and scored one with a single in the sixth. Matt Carpenter and Tommy Pham homered in the blowout. Lance Lynn tossed six innings of scoreless ball to pick up the win. Mike Foltynewicz surrendered seven runs on nine hits in four innings of work to take the loss. The Braves have dropped four-of-five.
(Chicago, IL) — Down to their last strike, Brett Gardner drilled a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to propel the Yankees to a 3-2 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The blast came off Hector Rondon as New York won the opener of the three-game series. Jonathan Holder got the win and Aroldis Chapman his seventh save. Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber hit solo homers for Chicago, which was outhit 11-to-4 in defeat.
