(St. Louis, MO) — Dexter Fowler keyed the Cardinals offense as they held on to clip the Reds, 7-5, in St. Louis. Fowler finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI in the winning effort. Jedd Gyorko also went deep for the Cards’ as they won their third-straight. Lance Lynn tossed six innings of one-run ball to earn the win, Seung-Hwan Oh notched his sixth save. Joey Votto and Scott Schebler homered for Cincinnati. Tim Adleman gave up eight runs in five-and-a-third to take the loss. The Reds are on a four-game slide.
(Boston, MA) — The Red Sox scored five runs in the first inning and held on the top the Cubs, 5-4, in Boston. Andrew Benintendi homered and Mitch Moreland mashed an RBI double for the Sox. Hanley Ramirez, Jackie Bradley Junior, and Christian Vazquez notched run scoring singles in the first inning outburst. Drew Pomeranz tossed six frames of one-run ball to pick up the win. Kris Bryant and Albert Almora Junior homered in defeat. Jake Arrieta surrendered the five-runs on ten-hits in four-and-a-third to take his first loss.
