(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Senate Democrats are pledging to fight a move by Governor Rauner to replace unionized nurses at state prisons with contract workers. The nurses got notices last week that their jobs will end in mid-June. Rauner says they’ll be offered jobs with the private contractor from out of state, and he says the move will save eight-million dollars a year. He says the private firm will provide more quality and better efficiency. State Senator Andy Manar says he’s introducing legislation to protect the jobs of 124 union nurses, who claim Rauner refused to bargain with them before outsourcing their jobs.
