(Springfield, IL) — The University of Illinois is putting almost 200-million dollars in student aid on the line to entice state lawmakers to give the school almost three-quarters-of-a-billion dollars. U of I leaders earlier this week unveiled a plan to earmark 170-million for financial aid for Illinois students. The catch is the school can only guarantee the money if lawmakers agree to the U of I’s budget request for more money from state government.
