A new campaign is renewing the push to raise the state minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour. Supporters say up to 40 percent of all workers in Illinois earn less than 15 dollars an hour. State Representative Will Guzzardi is introducing legislation to help those people out.
Under the bill, the wage would gradually be increased from the current $8.25 an hour to 15 dollars an hour by 2022. The first increase would in January to $9 an hour.
