/ Vandalia Radio

(Benton, IL)  — The mayor of the southern Illinois town of Benton is claiming he was cold-cocked by a man he knew while shopping at a grocery store this week. The “Southern Illinoisan” reports Mayor Fred Kondritz says he had a brief discussion in front of the store with a man he’s known most of his life, when the man punched him in the face. Based on the mayor’s complaint, police arrested Albert Smith, who is free on bond while police investigate.
