(Arlington Heights, IL) — Governor Rauner is defending his refusal to use his veto powers in the past to make an unbalanced budget into a balanced one. He told the editorial board of the “Daily Herald” today that there would have been “complicated machinations” involved in using an amendatory veto to make cuts in the budgets sent to him by Democrats. As for the current budget negotiations, Rauner was complimentary of efforts being made in both the House and the Senate, but didn’t indicate support for any particular plans for new revenue or spending cuts.
