(Washington, DC) — The Army Corps of Engineers is being ordered to issue the easement necessary to finish construction of the Dakota Access pipeline. It comes a week after President Trump signed an executive order to speed up construction of a section of the controversial pipeline in North Dakota. The easement would allow the pipeline to be built under a lake near the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s reservation. Critics say the pipeline threatens the water supply as well as sacred Native American lands. Once complete, the pipeline will transport oil from fields in North Dakota, through South Dakota, Iowa and to storage terminals in Illinois at the Patoka Tank Farm.
