A Brownstown man was killed in a two vehicle accident on U.S. Route 40 in Fayette County on Thursday night. The accident occurred on Route 40, just east of the I-70 overpass about 2 miles west of Brownstown at about 6:30 Thursday evening. Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen says that a vehicle driven by 47 year old Scott White of Brownstown was attempting to turn left into a drive, when Bowen says a passing east bound vehicle driven by Joseph Beshel struck the White vehicle in the front part of the vehicle. White was transported to Fayette County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by Bowen. Both Brownstown and Vandalia Fire Departments were brought to the scene of the accident. The crash remains under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Fayette County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police. Bowen says an autopsy will be conducted today to determine White’s cause of death.
