(Springfield, IL) — The Rauner administration is backing a proposal to attract more federal funds to help poor people struggling with mental illness and substance abuse. Health Department officials are explaining at a Springfield public hearing today that a Medicaid waiver could bring two-point-seven-billion-dollars to allow the state to treat as many as eight-hundred-thousand Illinoisans. Many of those people seeking mental health treatment would be new to Medicaid because of its expansion under the Affordable Care Act.
