(Sycamore, IL) — Scientists are confirming that a new bacterial disease that’s been infecting corn crops in neighboring states is also active in Illinois. It’s called “bacterial leaf streak” and it’s not clear what impact it could have on the crop this year. A single sample of corn from a DeKalb County farm tested positive for the disease after three-hundred-40 samples from around the state were examined. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the bacteria doesn’t pose a threat to human or animal health.
