Meanwhile, as part of the annual audit report, the city council was presented with a suggested increase for water rates by auditor Dale Timmerman. The calculation of annual adjustment presented to the city recommended a rather large increase in water of 15.18% and an increase of 6.05% in sewer rates. However, Timmerman also presented an alternative calculation that instead recommended an increase in water of 3.11% and no increase for the coming year in sewer rates. Due to the item not being on the agenda, the council could not take action on the alternative suggested increase rate of 3.11% for water and will instead vote on the water increase at their second meeting of September.
