The Illinois State Police says too many drivers don’t seem to understand state cell phone laws. Motorists either don’t know the rules or are ignoring them—according to the state police. State Police Captain Scott Compton reminds that Illinois law prohibits the use of a cell phone while driving, unless you are using a hands free device.
Texting while driving is also against the law and very dangerous, according to the state police, who says that just looking at your phone for 5 seconds while driving at highway speeds is like driving blindfolded the length of nearly two football fields.
