The Lady Vandals went 2-2 as they finished 4th at the Altamont Volleyball Tournament Saturday. Vandalia opened up pool pay with a 25-15, 25-14 win over Lincolnwood before picking up a two set win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-14, 25-22. After suffering their first set loss of the day to Altamont 19-25, the girls rebounded with a 25-53 win to force a decisive third set. After falling behind early, several serving and hitting errors doomed the Vandals as they fell 5-15 in the third set. The loss put the Lady Vandals in a three-way tie with Altamont and Lincolnwood as all three teams finished pool play at 2-1. A points tiebreaker put Vandalia in the third place game while bumping Lincolnwood into the championship game and Altamont to the 5th place game.
In the third place game, Vandalia fell in a very lopsided set 9-25 to Greenville before coming to life with a 25-17 win in set to even the match at a game apiece. However, the Lady Vandals fell behind 4-0 to start the third set and could not rebound as they fall 4-15 and finish the tournament in 4th place. And after the 4th place match, Lady Vandals Coach Amber Connor says the third set has been their problem area that they need to work on as the season progresses.
The Lady Vandals will not get much of a break from tough competition as they jump right back into conference play when they face Carlinville at home on Tuesday night.
