(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner is warning of dire budget consequences if the Teachers Retirement System votes today to reduce the expected rate of return on its investments. Rauner says the change would force the state to pay more than 400-million additional dollars into the pension fund. He says the move would cripple social services or force a tax hike. Rauner today attempted to block the vote by appointing three people to vacancies on the TRS board, but one of them was ruled ineligible.
