The Lady Vandals kicked off the season under new head Coach Amber Connor with a win on the road as they beat St. Elmo-Brownstown 25-18, 25-17 Thursday night. After holding a lead for most first set of the match, the Lady Vandals briefly found themselves down to the Lady Eagles before pulling back ahead and closing out the win. Vandalia started put a bit slow to start the second set having to come from a few points down to get into a 5-5 tie before taking the lead again and holding on to it on the way to the win. And Lady Vandals Coach Connor says she was glad to get the win and set a tone for the season.
And despite the loss, St. Elmo-Brownstown Coach Jeni Haslett says her team played well and she was happy to see them battle and stay in the match the whole way.
The Lady Vandals will now get ready for their home opener coming up on Tuesday when they face Staunton in a South Central Conference match while St. Elmo-Brownstown will be back at home Tuesday to face Christ Our Rock Lutheran in an Egyptian-Illini Conference match.
