A Farina man charged with aggravated kidnapping stemming from an incident last month made an appearance in Fayette County Court on Wednesday. 34-year old Darrel K. Moulton appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday with public defender Walter Lookofsky. As the preliminary hearing was set to begin, Moulton informed his attorney that he wished to call witnesses for the hearing, prompting Lookofsky to make a motion to continue the hearing. Judge Don Sheafor granted the motion over objection from the state. Sheafor informed Moulton that the delay in the case would mean a stoppage in the 30-day time period that defendants have to receive a prompt preliminary hearing to which Moulton stated he understood. It was also stated that one witness the defense would like to call would be from out of state. With that information, the matter is set for a rendition hearing and a possible preliminary hearing on September 15 at 11a.m.
Moulton is charged with aggravated kidnapping as on July 30th, he allegedly, “knowingly and secretly confined Gahret K. Moulton, a child under the age of 13 years, against his will.” Moulton remains in the Fayette County Jail on $500,000 bond.
