Two people were injured in an accident on Tuesday afternoon in northern Fayette County. The accident occurred on U.S. Route 51, south bound, at County Road 3100—which is north of Ramsey. Illinois State Police reports indicate that a semi driven by 64 year old L. Martin Franklin of Ramsey and a truck driven by 49 year old Peggy Bonilla of Pana were both traveling south on Route 51 when Bonilla’s vehicle was slowing down to turn left onto County Road 3100. State Police Reports say that Martin thought Bonilla was going to turn right and attempted to pass Bonilla’s vehicle on the left and struck the vehicle in the rear. Both Bonilla and a passenger, 44 year old Thad England of Pana, were taken to Pana Hospital for treatment of injuries. Illinois State Police say Franklin was issued a citation for improper passing at an intersection while both Bonilla and England were issued tickets for failure to wear a seat belt.
