(Flushing, NY) — The Mets earned a split in their doubleheader with the Cardinals with a 3-1 win in the nightcap. Jedd Gyorko hit a solo homer for St. Louis, which was a 3-2 winner in the opener. Jaime Garcia dropped to 7-and-7 with the loss.

(Flushing, NY) — Carlos Martinez outdueled Noah Syndergaard as the Cardinals beat the Mets 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. Jedd Gyorko hit a two-run homer for St. Louis, which led 3-0 in the third. Tommy Pham threw out Curtis Granderson at second trying to tag up in the ninth.

(Flushing, NY) — The Cardinals are without reliever Trevor Rosenthal. He’s been placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder. Rosenthal lost his closer’s job late last month. He is 2-and-4 with a 5.13 ERA and 14 saves this season. Lefty Dean Kiekhefer has been recalled.

Shields scattered four hits and four walks while fanning five to improve to 3-and-5 since joining the Sox. Kyle Hendricks allowed three runs over five-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 9-and-7. These teams will now play two more games tonight and tomorrow at Wrigley Field.
