(Springfield, IL) — A wider array of collection companies and other vendors would have access to sensitive financial information from cities under a law that’s been introduced in Springfield. Cities use third-party vendors to track uncollected taxes and those vendors say they need more information to go after scofflaws and tax cheats. Critics of the measure say the bill has no guarantee that the companies would abide by state and local privacy standards and that it could open businesses and individuals to harassment by collection agencies or other credit-related firms.
