(Springfield, IL) — It turns out that bringing the University of Illinois’ men’s basketball team to Springfield for five games last year was a money-loser for the Prairie Capital Convention Center. The Illini were looking for a temporary home when the State Farm Center in Champaign was being renovated, but despite one-point-three-million-dollars in ticket sales for games at the PCCC, expenses, including the fee paid to the U. of I., were about 200-thousand-dollars more than that. The loss would have been 400-thousand-dollars except that the university reduced its fee when ticket sales fell short of expectations.
