The Fayette County Board on Tuesday evening approved a motion to deny the donation of a seized vehicle to Jesus Loves You Ministries. During the February county board meeting, Stacey Shallenbarger of the ministry spoke to the board and Fayette County State’s Attorney Josh Morrison requested that the board donate a seized vehicle to the Christian County-based ministry. Shallenbarger offers services such as getting people who do not have a ride to court and other appointments among other things and they are looking to expand those services further into Fayette County. As the issue was brought up, Board Chairman Jeff Beckman began discussion by saying he felt by donating the vehicle it could turn into more and more people expecting the county to donate county property.
And Beckman said he didn’t feel it would be a good thing for the board to get in a situation of having to pick and choose where and whom to make donations.
Following discussion, a motion to deny the donation was put before the board with a roll call vote being taken. The motion was carried by a vote of 12-1 with Jacob Harris casting the lone no vote.
