(Springfield, IL) — Governor Bruce Rauner has signed a law requiring school districts in Illinois to install carbon monoxide detectors. The legislation was proposed after 150 elementary school students and staff in Girard were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning last year. School buildings without carbon monoxide sources would be exempt from the new law, which takes effect on January 1st.
