Student ACT scores in Illinois are tops among the states that give the exam statewide. The highest ACT score is a 36, and the average composite in Illinois is a 20.7 for the class of 2015. That puts the state in the number one ranking, along with Colorado. In addition, State Board of Education Spokesperson Matt Vanover says they saw some gains in the number of students meeting college readiness benchmarks.
Vanover says the board is working to make sure all high school Juniors get a shot at taking the ACT exam again this spring.
