Vandalia School District is getting the new school year underway with again showing good fund balances. Even though general aid payments from the state have been prorated to 89% before being bumped up to 92%, they have been received on time. Other payments such as some categorical not being received at all or being received very late in the year as well as the wait for property taxes each year can take a toll on districts in the summer and early fall months. And, Vandalia Superintendent Rich Well says that makes it key for the district to maintain fund balances that can carry over.
So far this year, schools have again received general state aid on time as the first payment promised to be dispersed mid-August was received.
