The demolition of the partially collapsed downtown buildings is underway. Razmus Demolition got rolling on Wednesday, also adding some extra fencing above the concrete barricades set up to keep individuals out of the property. Meanwhile, the City of Vandalia will continue to seek temporary restraining order measures in order to keep all individuals out and away from the property. At their meeting on Monday night, the Vandalia City Council authorized a payment of $55,587.75 to Razmus for 25 percent of the cost of the project. In the proposal submitted by Razmus, they have a minimum cost of 222, 000 thousand dollars if all goes smoothly and a maximum cost of 345,000 dollars if all does not—making them the lowest bidder for the project. They also estimate it will take 45 to 60 days to complete the demolition and cleanup of the property, with that taking the property down to being seeded.
