(Springfield, IL) — Governor Rauner used his veto pen today to toughen a bill designed to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana. Rauner says the amount of pot the bill would have allowed people to carry is too high and the fines are too low. His changes dropped the amount of pot to ten grams from 15 and raised the fines from a maximum of one-hundred-25-dollars to two-hundred. Another change Rauner made reduces the amount of pot a driver can have in his system before being charged with DUI — from 15 nanograms per milliliter of blood to five. The bill now goes back to lawmakers.
