(Chicago, IL) — A new report from Roosevelt University concludes that the state’s budget crisis comes at the worst possible time for those seeking help kicking a heroin habit. The study finds that while the Chicago area has developed the worst heroin problem in the nation, money for state-funded treatment programs and to pay for methadone has stopped flowing. Even before the budget impasse, the report says spending on state drug treatment had been cut by nearly 30-percent since 2007 and was in line for further cuts under Governor Rauner’s proposed budget.
