CSX Railroad will slow down their trains coming thru Vandalia, to try and prevent any further damaged to the partially collapsed buildings sitting so close to the tracks and passing trains. Ward One Alderman Jerry Swarm mentioned the possibility of slowing down the trains at the Vandalia City Council’s special meeting on Friday evening. Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman contacted CSX and they have granted the request and will slow down coming thru Vandalia. The fear was that the vibrations from the passing trains–normally passing thru Vandalia at 50 miles per hour–could cause further damage to the already damaged and partially collapsed buildings at 501, 503 and 507 West Gallatin Street.
